Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm whole milk (Notes: (105 to 110°F))
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast (Notes: (0.25-ounce/7g))
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar (Notes: plus 1 teaspoon)
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter (Notes: melted)
  • 1 piece Large egg (Notes: at room temperature)
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour (Notes: plus additional for dusting)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • Coconut or olive oil cooking spray
  • 3 cups Confectioners’ sugar
  • 0.5 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1
In a small bowl, whisk together the warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let the mixture stand until very bubbly.
  2. 2
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and remaining sugar until smooth. Stir in yeast mixture until combined.
  3. 3
Add the flour and salt. Mix on low speed until a shaggy dough forms. Increase speed to medium-low and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. 4
Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  5. 5
Punch down the risen dough. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick rectangle and cut out donuts.
  6. 6
Place donuts on a baking sheet and let rise until doubled in size.
  7. 7
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F and spray the basket with cooking spray.
  8. 8
Air fry the donuts in batches until golden brown.
  9. 9
Make the glaze by whisking together confectioners’ sugar, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and let set.

Tips & Variations:

  • Avoid adding more flour during kneading; the dough should be slightly tacky.
  • Measure flour correctly to avoid overpacking.
  • Glaze donuts while they are still warm for the best results.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
