Ingredients

  • 1 unit Large sweet onion (Notes: Vidalia, Walla Walla, or Maui onions preferred.)
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoon Paprika (Notes: Smoked paprika can be used for extra flavor.)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.67 cup Buttermilk (Notes: Can substitute with milk and vinegar.)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • Cooking spray (Notes: Non-aerosol preferred.)

Instructions

    Peel and slice the onion into 1/2-inch thick rings.

    In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

    In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk and eggs.

    In another shallow dish, stir together panko breadcrumbs and olive oil.

    Coat each onion ring in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.

    Dip in the egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs.

    Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).

    Arrange onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each ring.
